London Calling
Yep, I'm almost there! One more day left in Lexington, Kentucky, USA before I head across the pond. Honestly the fact that I am actually leaving didn't hit me until about a week ago...and even then I couldn't be motivated to pack. I think part of me knows that this is the last chance for a little while that I'll have to relax. But now the suitcases are full (well one of them at least) and I am ready go (mentally). The first week is going to be full of new people, experiences, and adventure so I am sure I will have lots more to write about then. Until then...

So despite the fact that I feel like Lexington is suffocating me, yesterday was a pretty good day; I slept until my eyes popped open (as my dad would say), checked a couple more things off my to do list, sat out in the sun and chatted with one of my best friend, and then had Chinese food and a movie night with the family. I went to bed happy and relaxed with the full intention of waking up at seven AM so I could start my day with a nine o'clock hot yoga class.
But alas, I seem to be losing my early bird tendencies and didn't wake up until my mum came in and prodded me at 8:45...sigh. This of course put me in a GIANT SQUID OF ANGER kind of mood, so I threw on some clothes and went for a run. Unfortunately I was so distracted that I forgot to drink any sort of liquid before I went out and so my fairly low key run ended with me curled up on the bathroom floor in pain due to dehydration; yeah, embarrassing.
A shower, breakfast, and lots of water later we all walked up to the farmers market which always makes me happy. We bought lots of shiny, yummy looking vegetables and I am excited for our experimental dinner of friend banana (am I the only one who has to sing the Gwen Stefani song in their head when they write that word?) peppers later.
Today I have also had to do something that I haven't done in ages; study! I have a math placement exam coming up when I start university at the end of the month and seeing as its been almost a year and a half since I took a math class I figured I need a good amount of preparation. And boy was I right! I am even struggling with elementary algebra! Its frankly pathetic. I think it will take a little while for my brain to get used to focusing on that kind of thing after such a long break. It's not that dancing or writing doesn't require thought, it's just a different sort of concentration, and one I greatly prefer. Ah well, at least I have one more worthwhile thing with which to fill my time.
I'm planning on going to the theater tonight to see a show put on by some of my former classmates and I'm quite looking forward to it. Let's just assume that my day is going to end more pleasantly than it began.

I'm still here! My goal of course is to blog everyday but so far I have not stuck to that plan very well, and I can't even make excuses by saying I have been busy because I haven't. It is actually quite strange being home and not having much to do. I am always happiest when busy but I have to say I am enjoying all this free time and am trying to use it wisely; reading, organizing, spending time with friends, listening to music, going to the pool etc.
I have very little tolerance for boredom and get very annoyed by people complaining that they are bored, especially on the internet. There are so many things online to fill your time with! And I'm not talking about aimlessly trolling facebook or watching videos of cute animals on youtube; how about checking out some of the amazing, though provoking blogs that are out there, looking up videos by intelligent people such as the vlog brothers, finding an undiscovered artist on youtube, or write an e-mail to a friend or family member you haven't seen in a whole. And then of course there is the whole world outside your computer! I admit that having a car and a license to drive it makes it much easier to find worthwhile activities to fill your time with it, but it is certainly not required. What about those unread books sitting on your shelf? All those untried recipes in your kitchen? And you cannot deny the power of a good long walk.
As far as I am concerned boredom is self inflicted and often confused with laziness. In the world that we are fortunate enough to live in there is hardly ever an excuse to sit around and do nothing. Or if this is the way you choose to pass your time then please do not whine about it to others. Enjoy summer while you still can! It seems to be slipping away all too quickly unfortunately.

Its my last night in Chicago! I have been such a slacker about posting, honestly I have just been floating through this week in delirium; my toe is not getting any worse but doesn't seem to be improving much besides the fact that the infection is no longer spreading. Doing pointe work, especially for the first part of the week, was so incredibly painful that I was close to tears most of the time and just trying to get through class as opposed to actually learning anything. It has been really frustrating because I know I am not dancing my best even though I am trying my hardest. After a couple days taking it easy I was able to dance on pointe yesterday (the day before the show!). I am glad I pushed through as I got the chance to dance the pas de trois from Donizetti which I love dancing because it is so musical and the steps just seem so natural. Obviously I didn't have much time to rehearse but I enjoyed myself despite some sloppy pique turns at the end of the showcase this afternoon. I managed to solve the toe problem by cutting a hole in the side of my pointe shoe which made things a little more comfortable and I was able to "cheese it up" all the way through Stars and Sripes. But now I am finished and my poor legs and feet (who seem to be rebelling against me) can have a little rest. Not too long mind as I don't want to go back to where I was at the beginning of the program; completely out of shape and uncoordinated. So it will be back in the studio and back to hot yoga as soon as possible for me.
Determined not to spend my last night locked in my room watching hulu, I went with Sonia and some of the other dancers to Millenium Park this evening to hang out and watch the Lolapalooza crowd stagger home. It was a great night even though we did little more than spin around in circles until we fell down in the grass. Of course we lost track of time and missed curfew by about twenty minutes but as it is our last night the chaperones weren't too annoyed...it was definitely worth their wrath though.
So excited to come home tomorrow! The last time I was in Lexington I was so jetlagged that it is just a blur of pizza and packing and I never even got to appreciate sleeping in my own bed. I am very much looking forward to three whole weeks of just enjoying Lexington and preparing for the big move!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep your fingers crossed that the curse of O'Hare Airport has been lifted and I get back to Bluegrass without a hitch.
